San Diego Events Today – Check the Weekend Roundup

I’m always looking for a good happy hour to go hand in hand with a fun event, and DJ Kurch spins it up right. This Wednesday, August 29th DJ Kurch is spinning at La Puerta, which is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in San Diego on 4th Ave in the Gaslamp Quarter. Plus, the happy hour really will make you smile, with tons of items on the menu half off and tequila drinks that will whet your whistle. Finding the best San Diego events today can be daunting, but you can’t go wrong at La Puerta – and if you like tapping your feet to the beat. And don’t forget to check out what else is happening in San Diego this weekend. Weekend Roudup makes it easy, all in a single convenient listing.

A Taste of California: Savory Happenings in the San Diego Area

When you’re looking to venture out with that special someone, tastings can offer a break from the run of the mill dinner plans followed by a movie. If such a break from the norm appeals, be sure to check out the BeerNerdz San Diego/Northern California Beer Tasting Challenge on Saturday, September 15th at The Beer Co. at 602 Broadway. Tickets run around $30 and buy you a scorecard, apps, and loads of San Diego and Northern California Brews. The event starts at 5:30PM until 8:00PM – and is one of the most savory happenings in Southern California in a landscape of humdrum dinner plans.

Past and Present Collide in Poway Park

Does the voice of Ken Burns make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? Do you find yourself wondering what it would have been like, to live without all the modern conveniences (and the subsequent inconveniences) of technology? If so, the Rendezvous in Poway might be one of just the right afternoon activity that’s right up your historical alley. On September 15th and 16th in Old Poway Park you’ll find historical encampments, gun fighting reenactments, mock train robberies, cannon demos, blacksmiths, panning for gold, and more. Watch history come to life and experience the era from the 1820’s – 1890’s – for free!

A Healthy Dose of Culture: The Festival of Sails

One of the great things about living in or near a city (or visiting) is getting a healthy dose of culture. If you’re looking to be inspired, be sure to check out the Festival of Sails at the Maritime Museum of San Diego from August 31st through September 3rd. With cruises on the San Diego Bay, live entertainment and more than 150 arts and crafts vendors (amidst a sea of food, pirates and cannon battles) – you’ll be happy you did. It’s certainly ranks as one of the best San Diego things to do worth noting. One-day tickets cost $10 and multi-day passes begin at $20 per person.
